Program Description:
Gallo Vineyards, Grower Relations, Precision Viticulture Research, Grape Breeding Research, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Internships
Imagine what you can do with the industry's most innovative grape-growing technologies at your disposal, learning first-hand how high-quality wine grapes are produced, how precision agriculture tools are used in wine grape production and how new grape varieties are. Interns work cross-functionally to support the production practices and research projects necessary to produce the grapes needed for nearly 100 million cases of wines and spirits annually. It won't take long for you to see our passion and expertise for winegrowing or to experience our culture where innovation and continuous improvement are highly encouraged and valued. Our winegrowing team has produced the grapes for award-winning wines for nearly a century while developing state-of-the-art growing practices and establishing E&J Gallo as the world's leader in viticulture science.
Our internship program provides individuals interested wine grape production and viticulture research the opportunity to spend six months working alongside seasoned grape growing and applied research professionals. Most internships begin in late spring to mid-summer and continue through harvest into the late fall, providing participants with a unique experience for technical training and professional development. Interns support a wide variety of corporate initiatives and projects and conduct individual research projects which will be presented to our management team at the completion of their internship. Internship opportunities are related but not limited to a wide variety of academic disciplines including viticulture, horticulture, plant science, genetics, biology, molecular biology, environmental science, geography, agricultural science, agriculture engineering and agriculture business. Placement Opportunities
GALLO VINEYARDS INTERNSHIP
Locations: Fresno, Livingston and Lodi, CA
Duration: June - December
Gallo Vineyards, Inc. (GVI) owns and operates vineyards located throughout the Central Valley of California, encompassing thousands of acres. GVI Central Valley is responsible for planting, establishing, growing and harvesting wine grapes in these vineyards using sustainable practices and advanced technology. Interns will support many different aspects of wine grape production including vine planting and training, viticulture, irrigation, nutrition, pest control, tractor operations and spray applications, new equipment trials and development, cultural operations and harvest.
What You Will Do:
GROWER RELATIONS INTERNSHIP
Location: Lodi, CA
Duration: June - November
Grower Relations works with thousands of wine-grape growers throughout the Central Valley. Grower Relations strives to produce the highest quality wine grapes recommending technologically advanced production techniques while building strong business relationships with the grower community. Interns will support our Grower Relations teams with mapping vineyard mapping and spatial analyses using GIS, crop estimation, pest and disease scouting, fruit sampling for yield and quality, coordination for harvest scheduling and delivery, and grower outreach and education.

PRECISION VITICULTURE RESEARCH INTERNSHIP
Locations: Modesto and Healdsburg, CA
Duration: May - December
Interns assist with research projects and production support initiatives focused on the development , evaluation and commercialization of precision agriculture practices and new technologies for wine grape production. The objective of this research is to improve yield, fruit composition and wine quality. This work is closely linked to and supported by other Winegrowing Research disciplines, our internal production partners and external research collaborators from industry and academia.

GRAPE BREEDING RESEARCH INTERNSHIP
Location: Madera, CA
Duration: May - December
Interns assist in projects focused on grapevine improvement, including grape breeding, phenotyping, sensory evaluation of fruit, fruit maturity monitoring and sampling, and harvest for yield component measurements. Work is closely linked to and supported by other Winegrowing Research disciplines, our internal production partners and external research collaborators from industry and academia.

GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS (GIS) INTERNSHIP
Location: Modesto, CA
Duration: May - December
Interns assist our scientists with the analysis of remote sensing and ground-based data using statistical and image analysis software as well as GIS. The work includes occasional field data collection activities.
