Position Description
The Research Programs Development Officer will be responsible for identifying, cultivating, and stewarding members for five advisory boards that support the research priorities of particular RAND research units and centers: the Center for Asia Pacific Policy, the Center for Global Risk and Security, the Center for Middle East Public Policy, RAND Infrastructure Safety and Environment, and RAND Health; and supporting the twice annual activities of the RAND Business Leaders Forum. Advisory board members include leaders in the private and non-profit sectors as well as academia. Members of the advisory boards are volunteer leaders who give personally and assist research units and centers in generating support for their research mission.

This position reports to the Executive Director of Development and the successful candidate will work closely with the leadership of several RAND units and centers to garner annual support from the board members, and collaborate with a major gifts officer responsible for raising funds to support the long-term priorities of the research centers and units. He/she must have the ability to effectively communicate RAND's mission and vision, as well as the priorities of the advisory boards and units of programs that each one supports.

May perform any or all of the following duties:

- Support the growth of five advisory boards by identifying prospective members, recruiting them to participate, and stewarding current and new board members.
- Build relationships with key volunteers who will help fulfill RAND's fundraising mission.
- Create programs of interest to identify and foster relationships with prospects and donors and solicit annual gifts from advisory board members with the assistance of RAND and volunteer leaders.
- Work closely with the Policy Circle, RAND's annual giving program, to promote the research programs to annual donors.
- Create and implement plans for achieving the fundraising goals for each board, working closely with research leaders.
- Develop written materials for advisory board members highlighting the mission, vision and activities of the unit or center supported by the board.
- Participate actively in the development and execution of advisory board activities, including the preparation of meeting agendas and fundraising content.
- Create annual fundraising projections and progress reports.

- Ability to accurately monitor budgets
- Proficient with MS Office; Raisers Edge experience desirable
- Ability to travel 10%-15% of the time
Education Requirements
